Penton Media accepts digital ad files via the following methods:

REMOVABLE MEDIA

  • CDs
  • DVDs
  • Click on the Contacts tab to find your production coordinator for shipping info.

EMAIL

Due to email storage limitations, we ask that you first consider sending ad files via FTP (see below). Transmission of email files are more dependable if they are compressed with Stuffit Deluxe (www.allume.com) for the Macintosh and WinZip (www.winzip.com) for the PC. Do not compress Mac files with WinZip or files being sent to us will become corrupt, including fonts. Both software can package and compress elements together for electronic shipment or storage. Files exceeding 5Mb in size must be sent via removable media or FTP.

FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL (FTP)

The Penton Media FTP site is located at this URL: ftp://adclient:adclient@ftpserver2.penton.com. Please compress your Macintosh or Windows files prior to sending them. This helps avoid corruption. Do not create folders on the FTP server. Keep the file name simple; example: "Yourname104MRT.sit" identifies the ad with your company name, followed by the month, year and magazine for which the ad is intended. Avoid generic names such as "VideoSystems.zip".

Step-By-Step Instructions to FTP Files for Windows Users

  • Step 1:
Access the Penton Media FTP site at the URL above which contains the login. FTP transfer can be done with the standard Internet Explorer browser on the PC. NOTE: With Internet Explorer 5.5, on some systems, you may need to either activate or de-activate the following: Tools / Internet Options / Advanced / Browsing / Use Passive Mode. If you encounter a log-on screen, enter "adclient" as the user name and password.

  • Step 2:
After you have succeeded with the log-in, copy the file from the original location, then select the FTP window and paste the copy to the appropriate publication folder.

  • Step 3:
Please notify the Production Coordinator that the file is ready to retrieve.

If there is an interruption while processing the file, you may need to re-name the file and go through the transfer again. A safety feature exists that does not allow a file to overwrite another file of the same name, so if there is a partially-submitted file, the second attempt will not transfer.

  • Step-By-Step Instructions to FTP Files using Cyberduck for Macintosh Users

  • Step 1:
Download the FREE software, Cyberduck (www.cyberduck.ch) and install as directed.
Please note that Internet Explorer on a Mac will not allow upload of files.
    Launch the Cyberduck application.

  • Step 2:
Click "Open Connection" and a new window will appear; enter the information shown at right.

    Server: "ftpserver2.penton.com"
    User ID: "adclient"
    Password: "adclient".

  • Step 3:
Select the proper publication folder and double-click to open it.

  • Step 4:
Select the files from your workstation (to prevent corruption we recommend that you compress multiple files into one archive file prior to uploading); drag the compressed archive into the folder. Please do not create additional folders inside the pub folder

  • Step 5:
Please notify the Production Coordinator that the file is ready to retrieve.
